Minutes away from downtown Charlotte, NC you will find beautiful, tranquil Lake Wylie. A part of the Catawba River system, Lake Wylie lies on the borders of both North and South Carolina. Its 324 miles of shoreline meanders through four of the Carolinas' most beautiful counties.
Residents and visitors find sandy beaches ideal for swimming, fishing, boating, sailing and water skiing. Paddle boats and canoes are available for rent at McDowell Park for those who like exploring the shorelines and coves which surround the Lake.
When not enjoying the waters of Lake Wylie, residents and visitors can experience hiking trails at McDowell Park and the walking paths of the world class Stowe Botanical Gardens.
Bird watchers will enjoy the myriad variety of feathered friends such as the ibis, green heron, mallards, woodpeckers, jays, wrens, cardinals, finches and spectacular red tailed hawks are some examples.
Outdoor sports such as golf and tennis are available to residents and guests almost year 'round along with seasonal game hunting.
Within easy driving distance of Lake Wylie, you will find King's Mountain National Military Park, historic York, SC and The Andrew Jackson Memorial and Museum of the Waxhaw in Waxhaw, NC. In historic Pineville you will find the James K. Polk Memorial. This is the reconstructed 1795 birthplace of the 11th President of the United States. The nearby towns of Pineville, Waxhaw, York and clover are meccas for the antique lover.
Paramount's Carowinds Amusement Park, 100 acres of family fun which straddles the NC/SC state line is close by along with Knight's Castle minor league baseball stadium and Ericsson Stadium, home of the Carolina Panthers professional football team.
