MENDED HEARTS HISTORY:
Mended Hearts was founded in 1951 by 4 post open-heart surgery patients at Boston Brigham Hospital. They found a common bond of encouraging each other and learning open-heart surgery was survivable.
Today Mended Hearts is a national, not for profit, organization of over 200,000 volunteers with over 200 chapters in partnership with over 400 hospitals and cardiac rehabilitation centers. These volunteers have a motto, "It's Great to be Alive and to help others".
Chapter #289 was chartered in June of 1999 and is one of 10 in South Carolina. Cardiac surgeons at Rock Hill's Piedmont Medical Center recognized the need for patients to realize heart disease is survivable and that they can have a new lease on life. With their help and those of the Rehab facility at Piedmont, Chapter #289 was organized as a satellite of Chapter #71 out of Columbia, SC. The members here feel "if you are helping someone up, you can't be down." That pretty much tells what Mended Hearts is all about.

MONTHLY MEETING:
Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at 6:30 p.m at Piedmont Medical Center, 222 S. Herlong Ave. Rock Hill, SC in the Doctor's Dining Room. Dr. T. Arthur Edgerton, Cardio Vascular Surgeon will speak on the "Latest Advances in Cardio Vascular Surgery".
LOOKING AHEAD:
Dr. T. Arthur Edgerton, cardiac surgeon will be the guest speaker on the 4th Tuesday of May and June 22 we will celebrate our 5th Anniversary with many honored guests, heart-healthy cake and ice cream. Our featured speaker for the evening will be Dr. Sushil Singhi of Carolina Cardiology. COME JOIN US!!!
